Inaugural Speech III International Congress of Language English (Rosario, 2004) I recommend this reading in this very special year for many English-speaking countries. It is a special address, emotional, full of constancy pasióny that have characterized, now and then, the peoples that make up what today are the countries of Latin America.
And every time someone tells you that the English "true fungus" (or some derivative of it), remember the next part of speech:
"English is probably more practical than Castilian.
German, deeper. The French, more elegant. The Italian, funnier. And the Russian, more distressing.
But I deeply believe that is the English language which more eloquence and beauty gives us wider repertoire of the human soul, individual personality and its social effects. There is no language more consistent and vocal, as we write and say and write. What say? What speak? What to write?
Nothing less than universal dictionary of the passions, doubts, aspirations that connects us with ourselves, with other men and women, our communities, with the world. Earth exist without us, because it is physical reality. The world, not because it is verbal creation. And the world would not be world without words. "
In other news, I'm back! I'm back on the University board, but try to keep up with everyone. It
